Improved Firefox Padma for reading Anandabazar and Bartaman

Padma is a Firefox plugin that enables users to read various Indic websites by converting their non-standard text to Unicode text. Padma has supported Anandabazar Patrika (ABP), the largest Bengali newspaper, for more than two years now. However, ABP (also Bartaman Patrika) support in Padma has a major matra-rendering bug which is explained in details here.

Couple of months ago, I made an effort toward fixing the above issue. You can get an improved version of Padma from here. This version resolves most of the matra rendering issue (if not all) for both Anandabazar Patrika (ABP) and Bartaman Patrika.

Update (Jul 9, 2010): To solve this problem at its root, please visit Anandabazar Unicode petition site where you can read Anandabazar using any browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, IE as well as mobile phones.

i am presently in sudan (africa).i cannot read anadabazar patrika on my computer.only todays first page can be seen.tried to load bengali fonts.failed.pl help me.

Hello,

Earlier I never used to face any problem in navigating through your website.

But now-a-days I find that whenever I try to navigate from the first page to any other pages through the tabs present in the first page, internet explorer stops working and states “Data Execution Prevention” has closed internet explorer so that my computer remains protected.

In case this information might be of any use, please note that I use Windows Vista.

Could you work out a solution to this problem? It would be of great help to people like us whose only means to keep in touch with Calcutta is your website.

I am now mumbai.i cant read anandabaZar becouse my pc cant suport bangali front or not instail this kind of front..plese solve this…

The bug fix package is not working for latest firefox release 3.5.3. For which firefox version has it been tested?

Hello,
The ANANDABAZAR bengali fonts do not display correctly on the newest firefox version 3.5.3. I use mac (so do not know how it is on a pc) and the FIREFOX got autoupdated and ever since the fonts are not working!!! I even downloaded the latest version of padma (15?) but to no avail! …tried to go back to older firefox version, but, that didn’t work either. It is really terrible:( … It would be greatly appreciated if you could please look in to it. Thank you sooooo much.

I have been reading anandabazar on line ( with IE) without any problem for a long time. For last few weeks I can only see the first page. As soon as I click on any tab the page goes away. Sometime a window for error reporting comes. I tried with Firefox. With Firefox this problem is not there, but the font, specially the vowels are terrible, even after installing Padma add-on. Can anyone help me ? I would like to use IE, which I am used to , and I like that font.

  Padma converts Anandabazar pages into Unicode and it does NOT provide any font itself. So the font that you are seeing in Firefox is default font available in your system.
  
  However, you can use any Unicode compliant font of your choice to view it. For example, you may download and install Paschim Banga Bangla Akademi font from here which belongs to the same font famility as ABP.

I have Firefox 3.6. and inspite of installing Padma 04.15 I can’t read Anandabazar on my Mac. Any solution ?

  If you have installed a Bengali Unicode font in your Mac, then you should be able to read Anandabazar from the petition site

  without using Padma. You can even use Safari browser. If you still have problem then please post a screenshot.

Ican not read any bengali news paper in bengali font inmy mobile my mobile set is Nokia 5800 XPRESS MUSIC. So saluation my problem as early as possible.

Sir,

Following your posted suggestions I have been able to read the bengali front of Anandabazar Patrika in my Nokia 5300 after having downloaded the Opera Mini in my hand set. But you have not contended anything explicitly about reading Bartaman in the same browser. Please, suggest something.
